- Follow all discharge instructions exactly

- Have someone available to help at home
Follow-Up is Essential
- Schedule follow-up with your primary care doctor or specialist within 2-3 days
- Follow up as instructed in your discharge papers
- Return to the ER if symptoms worsen significantly before your follow-up
- Bring your discharge paperwork to your follow-up appointment
Recovery
- Rest and recover as instructed
- Gradually increase activity as tolerated
- Monitor for signs of infection or worsening condition
- Attend your follow-up appointment; do not skip it
When to call your provider or 911
- •Symptoms significantly worse than when you left the ER
- •Fever above 101.5°F
- •Unable to keep down fluids or medications
- •Confusion or altered mental status
When in doubt, call your clinic. For a medical emergency, call 911.
