What to expect
Treatment Success
- •Compliance is everything: less than 20 hours/day = slower results
- •Change trays on schedule (usually every 1-2 weeks)
- •Keep old trays as backups in case a tray is lost or broken
- •Retainer wear after treatment is essential to maintain results
Invisalign / Clear Aligner recovery, day by day
Getting Started
- Wear aligners 20-22 hours per day (remove only to eat and brush)
- Pressure and tightness are normal and mean the aligners are working
- Use aligner chewies to ensure full seating
Attachments
- Small tooth-colored bumps may have been bonded to your teeth
- These help the aligners grip your teeth for complex movements
- They are removed at the end of treatment
Adjusting
- Discomfort is strongest the first 2-3 days of each new tray
- Over-the-counter pain relief if needed
- Practice inserting and removing aligners (it gets easier)
- Speech may be slightly affected at first; practice talking
Aligner Care
- Rinse aligners with cool water (hot water warps them)
- Clean aligners with a soft brush and clear liquid soap daily
- Always store in the case when not wearing (never wrap in a napkin)
- Brush teeth before reinserting aligners after eating
When to call your provider or 911
- •Aligner cracks or breaks
- •Attachment falls off
- •Severe, persistent pain beyond normal pressure
- •Aligner doesn't fit at all (may have skipped a tray)
When in doubt, call your clinic. For a medical emergency, call 911.

Switch to next tray on schedule (usually 1-2 weeks)
