    What to expect

    When to Call

    • •Temporary bridge falls off or feels loose
    • •Persistent pain when biting after permanent placement
    • •Gum tissue around bridge becomes very red or swollen

    Dental Bridge recovery, day by day

    Day 0 (Preparation Day)

    Numbness & Sensitivity

    • Numbness may last 2-4 hours after the procedure
    • Avoid chewing until numbness fully wears off
    • Your prepared teeth may feel sensitive to temperature

    Temporary Bridge Care

    • Avoid sticky foods (gum, caramel, taffy) that can pull off the temporary
    • Chew on the opposite side when possible
    • If the temporary comes loose, call us right away

    Diet

    • Soft foods for the first 24 hours
    • Avoid very hot or cold foods and drinks
    • No hard, crunchy, or sticky foods
    Day 1-6

    Temporary Bridge

    • Continue to chew carefully on the opposite side
    • Brush gently around the temporary bridge
    • Floss carefully; slide floss out sideways rather than pulling up

    Pain Management

    • Mild sensitivity is normal and should improve daily
    • Over-the-counter pain medication as needed
    • Warm salt water rinses (1/2 tsp in 8 oz) can soothe gum tissue
    Day 7-14

    Permanent Bridge Placed

    • Some adjustment sensitivity is normal for 1-2 weeks
    • Check your bite; let us know if it feels high or uneven
    • Brush and floss normally around the bridge
    • Use a floss threader or interproximal brush under the bridge

    Long-term Care

    • Avoid biting into very hard foods directly on the bridge
    • Continue regular dental checkups for bridge evaluation
    • A well-maintained bridge can last 10-15 years

    Medications you may be given

    Ibuprofen 600mg

    Take 1 tablet 3 times daily with food

    When to call your provider or 911

    • •Temporary bridge has come completely off and you cannot place it back
    • •Severe pain in prepared teeth that worsens over time
    • •Swelling in gums or face near the bridge
    • •Difficulty biting or jaw feels misaligned
    • •Signs of infection: pus, foul taste, fever

    When in doubt, call your clinic. For a medical emergency, call 911.
