    Day 0 (Fitting Day)

    First Day with Dentures

    • Keep dentures in for the first 24 hours, even while sleeping
    • Some discomfort and increased saliva are completely normal
    • Your speech may sound different; this improves with practice

    If Extractions Were Done

    • Bite on gauze over extraction sites for 30-45 minutes
    • Dentures act as a bandage and help control bleeding
    • Some oozing for 24 hours is normal
    Day 1-7

    Eating

    • Start with very soft foods: pudding, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs
    • Cut food into small pieces and chew on both sides evenly
    • Avoid sticky, hard, or chewy foods for now

    Sore Spots

    • Sore spots are very common and expected with new dentures
    • Note where sore spots develop; adjustments are usually needed
    • Do NOT try to adjust dentures yourself
    Day 8-30

    Adjustment Period

    • Multiple adjustment appointments are normal (3-5 visits)
    • Practice speaking by reading aloud
    • Gradually introduce more foods as comfort improves
    • Remove dentures at night to let gums rest (after initial healing)

When to call your provider or 911

    • •Persistent sore spots that don't improve after adjustment
    • •Dentures feel very loose or fall out when talking
    • •Signs of oral infection: redness, white patches, or sores that don't heal
