What to expect
Retainer Compliance
- •The first 6 months are critical for tooth stability

Braces Removal recovery, day by day
Day 0 (Removal Day)
After Removal
- Teeth may feel slippery and strange without brackets; this is normal
- Mild sensitivity is common, especially to cold
- Your teeth may feel slightly loose; they will firm up over a few weeks
Retainer Instructions
- Wear your retainer EXACTLY as instructed (usually full-time for several months)
- Not wearing your retainer WILL cause teeth to shift back
- Clean your retainer daily with a soft brush and mild soap
Day 1-7
Oral Care
- Enjoy being able to brush and floss easily again
- Use fluoride toothpaste to help remineralize enamel
- Consider professional whitening after 2-4 weeks if desired
- Schedule regular dental cleanings every 6 months
When to call your provider or 911
- •Sharp pain from a bonded retainer wire poking gums
- •Retainer doesn't fit anymore (teeth may have shifted)
- •Significant tooth sensitivity that worsens
When in doubt, call your clinic. For a medical emergency, call 911.
