What to expect
How PRP works
- •PRP uses your own platelets to stimulate skin quality or hair over time.
- •Results are gradual and usually need a series of treatments.
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) recovery, day by day
First hours
- Mild redness, warmth, swelling, or pinpoint bruising at the treated sites is normal for 1 to 3 days.
- If your skin was microneedled, leave it alone: no makeup, and only the products your provider approved for the rest of the day.
- Avoid touching or washing the area for a few hours, or as your provider directed.
Rest of the day
- Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, alcohol, and NSAIDs for 24 hours.
- Use gentle, fragrance-free skincare and lukewarm water.
Settling and protecting
- Redness and swelling settle over 1 to 3 days.
- Resume normal skincare once the skin feels calm.
- Wear SPF 30+ and protect the area from direct sun.
- Results in skin quality or hair build gradually over weeks, usually across a series of sessions.
When to call your provider or 911
- •Spreading redness, warmth, swelling, pus, or fever (possible infection).
- •Severe or increasing pain at a treated site.
- •Signs of an allergic reaction: hives, swelling of the face or throat, or trouble breathing. Call 911.
When in doubt, call your clinic. For a medical emergency, call 911.
