    • STRICT rest: crate rest or very confined space. No running, jumping, or excitement.
    • Keep a daily log of symptoms and medication times

    Monitoring

    • Follow up with your vet if any concerns arise
    • Ensure fresh water is always available
    • Feed consistent, measured meals at regular times
    Week 2-4

    Adjustment Period

    • Continue all medications without interruption
    • Continued STRICT rest. This is critical to prevent pulmonary embolism from dying worms.
    • Recheck appointment as scheduled for bloodwork or monitoring
    Week 5-2

    Ongoing Management

    • Continue medications as a long-term treatment plan
    • Gradual return to activity ONLY after vet clearance. Retest in 6 months.
    • Maintain consistent diet and exercise routine
    • Schedule regular follow-ups every 3-6 months

    When to call your provider or 911

    • Coughing, difficulty breathing, or bloody nose (signs of pulmonary embolism)
    • Rapid weight loss or complete appetite loss
    • Persistent vomiting or diarrhea
    • Extreme lethargy or disorientation
    • Jaundice (yellowing of gums, eyes, or skin)

    When in doubt, call your clinic. For a medical emergency, call 911.
