    Pet Dental Cleaning recovery, day by day

    Day 0 (Procedure Day)

    Post-Anesthesia

    • Your pet may be groggy and disoriented for 12-24 hours after anesthesia
    • Keep them in a quiet, warm, confined space with non-slip flooring
    • Offer small amounts of water 2-3 hours after arriving home
    • A light meal of soft food in the evening if alert and interested

    Oral Care

    • Slight gum redness is normal
    • Do NOT brush teeth or give hard chews/toys for 10-14 days
    • Soft food for 2-3 days
    Day 1-3

    Recovery

    • Appetite should return to normal within 24-48 hours
    • Continue soft food and pain medication as prescribed
    • Check mouth gently for excessive swelling or bleeding
    • Some facial swelling is normal after extractions
    Day 4-7

    Healing

    • Gums should be healing well with reduced swelling
    • Can transition back to regular food
    • Follow-up if sutures were placed (usually dissolving type)
    • Resume daily dental care routine once healed

    When to call your provider or 911

    • Heavy bleeding from the mouth that doesn't stop
    • Refusal to eat or drink for more than 24 hours
    • Extreme facial swelling or swelling that worsens after day 2
    • Foul odor from the mouth (sign of infection)
    • Difficulty breathing (especially after jaw surgery)
    • Persistent pawing at the mouth

    When in doubt, call your clinic. For a medical emergency, call 911.

      Extraction/surgical sites closing and pinkening

    3. Day 14
