    Suboxone / MAT recovery, day by day

    Week 1 (Starting Period)

    Starting Your Medication

    • Take your medication at the same time every day
    • Side effects are often worst in the first 1-2 weeks and then improve
    • Do NOT stop your medication suddenly without talking to your prescriber (risk of withdrawal)
    • Keep a mood journal to track how you're feeling

    Important Safety Information

    • Some medications take 2-6 weeks to reach full effect; be patient
    • Avoid alcohol while starting treatment
    • Report any thoughts of self-harm to your provider or call 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline)
    • Keep all follow-up appointments
    Week 2-6

    Ongoing Monitoring

    • Continue taking medication as prescribed even if you start feeling better
    • Track your mood, sleep, appetite, and energy levels
    • Contact your provider about any side effects; adjustments can often be made
    • Engage in healthy routines: regular sleep schedule, exercise, social connection

    When to call your provider or 911

    • •Thoughts of harming yourself or others (call 988 immediately)
    • •Severe allergic reaction: rash, swelling, difficulty breathing
    • •Serotonin syndrome: agitation, rapid heartbeat, high temperature, muscle twitching
    • •Sudden severe worsening of symptoms

    When in doubt, call your clinic. For a medical emergency, call 911.
