    What to expect

    Allergy Emergency

    • Signs of anaphylaxis: throat tightness, difficulty breathing, widespread hives, dizziness
    • Use your EpiPen immediately and call 911

    Treatment Day

    After Treatment

    • Wait in the office for 30 minutes after each injection (anaphylaxis monitoring)
    • Mild redness and swelling at the injection site is normal
    • Apply ice if the injection site is sore or swollen
    • Avoid strenuous exercise for 2 hours after allergy shots (increases reaction risk)
    Day 1-30

    Ongoing Care

    • Allergy shots take 3-6 months to show significant improvement; be patient
    • Never skip the 30-minute observation period after injections
    • Carry your epinephrine auto-injector (EpiPen) at all times if prescribed
    • Keep a symptom diary to track improvement

    When to call your provider or 911

    • Throat tightness or difficulty breathing (anaphylaxis)
    • Widespread hives or swelling away from the injection site
    • Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting
    • Rapid heartbeat or feeling of doom
    • Swelling of the tongue, lips, or face

    When in doubt, call your clinic. For a medical emergency, call 911.
