    • Monitor blood glucose as instructed (fasting, before meals, and/or bedtime)
    • Learn the signs of low blood sugar: shakiness, sweating, confusion, rapid heartbeat
    • Always carry a fast-acting sugar source (glucose tabs, juice, candy)
    • Do NOT adjust medication doses without consulting your endocrinologist
    Day 1-30

    Ongoing Monitoring

    • Log blood sugar readings; bring log to appointments
    • Take medication at the same time every day for consistency
    • Follow your meal plan; consistent carbohydrate intake helps stabilize blood sugar
    • Stay active; regular exercise improves hormone regulation

    When to call your provider or 911

    • Blood sugar below 54 mg/dL or unable to treat low blood sugar
    • Blood sugar above 400 mg/dL with nausea, vomiting, or fruity breath (DKA)
    • Severe allergic reaction to medication
    • Loss of consciousness

    When in doubt, call your clinic. For a medical emergency, call 911.
